Is it not spiritually revealing that Senator Obama has not attended church since he was elected to be President? He has regularly made time to attend the gym to workout, even on Sunday, but he has not attended a church worship service. He attended church while campaigning, but now it does not appear to be a priority. Your thoughts?

I know that the President Elect left his former church in Chicago in the controversy surrounding his Pastor and I believe he has said his family intends to find a church in DC.

While I'm the first to support going to church, I'd let him and his family find their way on this one. I hope they do find a church as I know he and his wife are very serious about the place of faith in their lives.

For whatever it is worth, President Reagan went 8 years in the Presidency with very little church attendance. Interestting how he garnered such conservative Christian support! I'd suspect it was because in their minds his policies trumped his personal devotional practices in determining Presidential value.

You can't say that Obama has not attended church because he has not found one; he was attending his new church prior to the election when he was praying for the Christian vote.

No modern day Presidential candidate was scrutinized over religion as much as Obama, not even Kennedy and certainly not Regan.

I don't presume to know where Obama is spiritually - only God knows. I do know this much however; 100% of the unbelievers I know will not attend church unless they have to, and 100% of the Christians I know make church attendance a top priority.

Of course, I believe in attending church. I advise it and encourage people to keep inviting friends and family to join them there BUT church going in and of itself does not take into account the depth of one's commitment to Christian living.

It IS interesting that Christian conservatives gave President Reagan a free pass on his lack of church attendance. Please understand that I am not attacking President Reagan. I'm just pointing out that he was not a churchgoer and conservative Christians uttered nary a word about that.

On a related matter, I suggest Randall Balmer's book GOD IN THE WHITE HOUSE for a solid historical overview of religion and our Presidents.

Happy Thanksgiving!
