PRESIDENT OBAMA AT NOTRE DAME

President Obama delivered an incredible speech today at the University of Notre Dame. It was remarkable for many reasons. It was a serious attempt to establish COMMON GROUND so that people on both sides of the abortion debate can stop screaming and shouting and instead recognize one another as God's children and ACT WITH CIVILITY, too often an abandoned quality.

I'll have more to say about this, probably tomorrow, but, for now, I'd recommend you view it on:

I'd like your reaction...

No body's talking about what's really happening at Notre Dame.

I applaud Notre Dame's decision to uphold our consitututional right for free speach. The abortion debate is very emotionally charged. While I do believe that in many cases abortion demeans the sanctity of human life I would like to share a story that demonstrates that this issue- like most others- is not as black and white as we might think. My youngest brothers friend from HS and his wife tried for many years to concieve. When they did and ther first child was born she was born with a rare genetic illness that was lethal within the first few months of this child's life. The first few months of this child's life was filled with much suffering and she finally died. Fortunately there was prenatal testing for this illness. Unfortunately both parents being devote Catholic were against abortion. After much struggle they did again attenpt to concieve with the help of pre natal diagnosis and now have 2 beautiful healthy children. While there might be some who would still argue against abortion and while I may have personal feelings against abortion, I feel the legality should be preserved. The decision should be up to the parents and doctor and should be PRIVATE and not subject to the scrutiny of the public. This does not translate into being pro abortion as I agree with President Obama that it is a option that should be available but- to paraphrase Obama's words- not used very much. Donna
